Even the PT Cruiser doesnt want to be a PT Cruiser.

Yep. Started being offered in 2003 and was turbocharged. Basically it was the PT Cruiser GT but it was badged as a GT Cruiser.

I believe the GT Cruiser was a trim offered with a
version of the turbo 4 from the Neon
SRT-4.

It’s a real thing. It started off as forum sh orthand for the PT Cruiser GT but eventually Chrysler started badging them as GT Cruisers

No, a “GT Cruiser” was not a thing. There was a " PT Cruiser GT" though with the aforementioned neon turbo engine.

Yes.
It’s a PT Cruiser with a slightly detuned SRT4 engine.

right, this feels like a cheap imitation using the slightly wrong terminology

I always called them GT Cruisers too, but they were never badged that way or officially named as such.
Source: I asked my used car manager whose job it is to know details of trim levels on Chrysler vehicles and worked all the way through the entire PT Cruiser lifespan ( an amazing 10 years)

Yes, it was a real thing. It was a concept car before the PT Cruiser actually came out, along with the blue Panel Cruiser. It had a turbo engine and bumperless front and rear bodywork.

Just to clarify from what others have said. Chrysler never sold a model specifically badged as a GT Cruiser.
The GT Cruiser was a concept car from 2000 that preceded the PT Cruiser GT (also commonly referred to as GT Cruiser, but never badged as such).
Maisto also has a diecast model of the Panel Cruiser concept.
